Scotland in Space

Scotland in Space

In Summer 2018, the Social Dimensions of Outer Space (SDOS) network delivered its inaugural project, an interdisciplinary exploration of “Scotland in Space”, led by Deborah Scott and Simon Malpas. This initiative brought together science-fiction authors, researchers in Astrobiology, Astrophysics, Social Sciences and the Humanities, and staff from public bodies such as the National Museum of Scotland and the Royal Observatory of Edinburgh.

In a series of dialogues, the participants examined Scotland’s potential as a site of space-focused innovation, research and imagination. The resulting manuscript includes three comissioned short stories and accompanying essays exploring their scientific, social, political, literary, and cultural aspects.
